Salt of the Earth Prayer
Canon of Prayer; Day 15
"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” (Mathew 5:13)
Jesus said that we are the salt of the Earth and then He reminded us of the importance of “living salty lives”. To better understand what Jesus was aiming at when He called us salt, you will first need to understand the history of salt. In the past salt had many significant uses; in the days before refrigeration it was used for the preservation of food; it had its early uses in the medical world as a cleanser for wounds. Much of this is common information, but what you may not know is salts role in establishing covenants.
Ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt? (2 Chronicles 13:5)
All the heave offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer unto the LORD, have I given thee, and thy sons and thy daughters with thee, by a statute for ever: it is a covenant of salt for ever before the LORD unto thee and to thy seed with thee. (Numbers 18:19)
Normally when we think about salt, we think of it as something that we use to season our food and that is true, but a better understand of how salt works is that it brings out the flavor. Salt is still used today for the preservation of food; can goods, TV dinner and other packaged foods all contain significant amount of sodium (salt) in them for the purpose of preserving the content. Salt still has its place in the medical world, dentist still advise patients to gargle with salt water to cleanse wounds and other dental issues. It is used in IVs when patient are in the hospital, and other medical uses.
And it is still being used in covenants until this day; we are in covenant relationship with God being born again and He calls us salt; this is a Kingdom covenant with God that we will forever be His. This covenant is extended to all who are born again because of Jesus the King who we the seed of David of whom scripture tell us, “He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.
It is from this place that Jesus says, be salt; you who are in covenant Kingdom relationship with me, go and impact the world the way salt does. I want you to bring healing and to preserve the Earth. I establish my Kingdom on Earth, now bring out the flavor of the culture of the Kingdom that will add flavor to the world; all for the purpose of bring men into salt covenant relationship with me-the King of Heaven.
The other thing that salt does is make people thirsty. I believe Jesus wants us to be the salt of the Earth that will make humanity thirst for the living water (Holy Ghost- John 7:38-39) “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:14)
Prayer
God we thank You for establishing a salt covenant with us and for making us salt in the Earth. I declare that as Your sons are rising up in the Earth our conversation (word and life style-action speak louder that word) will be seasoned with salt (Kingdom), that it may ministers to those hurting, hopeless and lost in my city, state and region.
I declare we shall be effective salt; impact, influencing and transforming the world around us, impacting the Earth with the flavor of Your Kingdom. We are impacting the culture of the world bringing the salt of the Kingdom of Heaven that will transform lives, that they too become salty. We are salting and preserving, salting and cleanse, salting and healing the world and those we come in contact with.
Father I Declare, we live salty lives that will make man (humanity) thirsty for You the Living water. We are the salt of the Earth.
This is the decree of the King
