Prayer of Endurance

The Canon of Prayer; Day 48

Consider it nothing but joy, my [a]brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials. Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity, and inner peace]. And let endurance have its perfect result and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfect and completely developed [in your faith], lacking in nothing. (James 2:4)

The Word that is translated as endurance in this text is further translated as “cheerful (or hopeful) endurance, constancy:—enduring, patience, patient continuance (waiting)”. In the King James Version it is translated as patience.

Patience

1. the bearing of provocation, annoyance, misfortune, or pain without complaint, loss of temper, or anger.

2. an ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay.

3. quiet, steady perseverance; even-tempered care; diligence.

Endurance

1. The act, quality, or power of withstanding hardship or stress:

2. The state or fact of persevering:

3. Continuing existence; duration. (tfd.com)

As we endeavor to appropriate the Character of the King and walk in our true identity, we now turn our attention to the Characteristic; Endurance.

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. (Hebrews 12:2-3)

Notice how faith and endurance is tied together, Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith because He endured for us; we are told to look at His example so we can appropriate the Character of the King.

Endurance is the discipline of resistance.

When you endure temptation, you resist the desire, the provocation and solicitation to walk and live outside of the Character of the King. (James 4:7)

Endurance is the discipline of submission.

Our submission to the King and obedience to His Word and Holy Spirit will empower us to endure. (James 4:7)

Endurance is the discipline of dominion.

As we discipline ourselves in the art of Endurance we walk in dominion of temptation and situations that would otherwise dominate us and our lives. (James 1:13-15)

Endurance is the discipline of the overcomer.

When we practice the art of discipline we overcome the things that are trying to overcome us (1 Corinthians 10:13)

Endurance is the discipline of faith.

As we walk in faith we endure what may be unpleasant at the moment, knowing that we overcome in the end (1 John 5:4)

I declare faith that endures, faith to endure and endurance that builds faith.

This is the Decree of the King
