Binding the Spirit of Pride and Ego

The Canon of Prayer: Day 19

Pride (thefreedictionary.com)

  • Arrogant or disdainful conduct or treatment; haughtiness.

  • An excessively high opinion of oneself; conceit.

Ego (thefreedictionary.com)

  • An exaggerated sense of self-importance; conceit.

  • In psychoanalysis, the division of the psyche that is conscious, most immediately controls thought and behavior, and is most in touch with external reality

“ARROGANT OR DISDAINFUL CONDUCT OR TREATMENT; HAUGHTINESS” -Pride

The spirit of Pride and Ego is manifested in people as arrogance and haughtiness, they are very belittling to others and they have an inflated view of themselves. People operating in the Spirit of Pride are also very self-center; they act as if the world revolves around them (An exaggerated sense of self-importance; conceit - ego). This Spirit also causes people to act out of character; even to the point of hostility if they feel their place in the “spotlight” is threatened. They are always working to forward their own agenda even when they are polite to others and helpful.

Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18

Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility. Proverbs 18:12

AN EXCESSIVELY HIGH OPINION OF ONESELF; CONCEIT” -Pride / “AN EXAGGERATED SENSE OF SELF-IMPORTANCE; CONCEIT” -Ego

Scripture warns us against viewing ourselves higher that we ought to; and instructs us to esteem other above ourselves. If you ask me, this is the antidote for a prideful mindset. God, I believe gives us clear and simple instructs for overcoming the Spirit of Pride and Ego; cultivate a mind and lifestyle of humility.

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Philippians 2:3

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. Romans 12:3

The Ego is defined as “the division of the psyche that is conscious, most immediately controls thought and behavior, and is most in touch with external reality” (thefreedictionary.com). So, to be victorious over the Spirit of Pride and Ego, one must bring their psyche (spirit or soul) into submission to God, the Supreme King. Pride is the very thing that Satan got kicked out of heaven for; filled with ego not submitted to God, he went for God’s throne. When one does not submit their ego to the King, they will place self on the throne of their hearts just like Satan tried to unseat God off of His Throne. The psyche is “the mind functioning as the center of thought, emotion, and behavior and consciously or unconsciously adjusting or mediating the body's responses to the social and physical environment” [and spiritual realm].

God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

Humble [Submit] yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

1 Peter 5:5-6

Father I Bind up the Spirit of Pride in and Ego, in my city, state and region; free those bound and operating under the influence and power of Pride and Ego.

I curse Pride and Ego at the root and declare it shall not produce fruit in the lives of the people in my community, church, city, state, and region. Spirit of Pride and Ego, I command you to dry up from the root; I command you to be cast into the lake of fire.

I declare the chains of Pride and Ego are broken off of the lives of your people-God, off of Pastors, Preachers and all citizens of the Kingdom; that they will live humbly submitted to you.

I pray that they will cultivate a life submitted to the King in all areas, that they live, preach, and serve You from this place- The Kingdom of God.

This is the Decree of the King.
