Mustard seed Faith

The Canon of Prayer; Day 23

Faith is one of the Key most important principles of effective prayer. Scripture reminds us of the importance of faith, we are saved by faith (Ephesians 2:8) we overcome by faith (1 John 5:4) and without faith it is impossible to please God. The importance of faith in the place of prayer cannot be over emphasized. “But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.” (James 1:6-7) Faith can move mountains (Matthew 17:20), uproot trees (Luke 17”6) and send demons packing.

Faith is not simply believing, its faithfulness, commitment, loyalty, allegiance to the King and the Kingdom of God. It is an attitude so rooted in the person that it governs all that one believes, thinks and does. It is from here that a person of faith lives; it is the life of the believer. “The life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith” (Galatians 2:20). By faith we surrender our heart, lives and will to the rule of the King-God. It is by faith that we become Kingdom Citizen and it is by faith that we are transformed into the image of His Son-Jesus Christ, God in the flesh.

Jesus did not require for us to just have faith and He did not require for us to have-as it has been so long wrongly taught; for us to have faith the size of a mustard seed. Jesus said for us to have faith as a mustard seed. Jesus rebuked the disciples for their lack of faith then He Himself cast of the demon and told the disciples to elevate their faith; to have mustard seed faith. It is also recorded that the disciple asked Jesus to help them increase their faith (Luke 17:5), Jesus’ reply was simply; mustard seed faith. Jesus was not referring to the size of the seed, but the quality of the seed. I call it the mustard seed principle.

“The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof”

(Matthew 13:31-23)

Jesus teaches us the greatest lesson of faith; that if we are going to optimize our walk and our prayer life, mustard seed faith is what we are going to need. No matter how small our faith starts, we must water it and cultivate the seed of faith until it is a tree.

Prayer

Father, increase our faith, not just our belief and confidence in you but also our faithfulness, commitment, loyalty. Father we pledge our allegiance to you and the Kingdom of Heaven. We pray for mustard seed faith; faith that lives from Heaven on Earth, as Citizen of your Kingdom.

We declare faith that moves mountain, that heals the sick, that recovers the sight of the blind both physically and spiritually, faith that curses the root of a thing; faith that tears down strongholds, breaks chains, severs soul ties and destroys yokes.

Father we declare faith that enables us to realize our identity, and be transformed to the image of your Son.

This is the Decree of the King
